Information Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Minor

Introduction

The Fox School Information Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ITIE) minor integrates two of the most important elements of the Fox school; the enabling role of IT and the drive of entrepreneurial thinking. The minor will allow Fox School majors to combine the above elements by taking relevant courses in Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems (MIS), and other related areas. The minor is appropriate for all majors but particularly relevant for students in Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Management, and MIS who are interested in applying IT in an entrepreneurial manner. Students who minor in ITIE will be well suited to work for corporations who want to drive new IT enabled innovative projects and for technology enabled start-ups.

The minor is a joint venture between the MIS department and the General and Strategic Management department.

Courses

1. GSM 3501: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
2. MIS 3536: Information Systems Innovation (new course based on existing previous courses)
3. Select two of the following:
   • MIS 3596: Business Process Analysis
   • MIS 2502: Database Management Systems
   • GSM 3503: Managing New and Small Enterprises
   • GSM 3585: Internship in Entrepreneurship
   • MKTG 3580 - Special Topics - Entrepreneurial Marketing OR BTMM 4614 - Creating a Media Business (students can only take one or the other towards the minor)

Notes

• Fox school majors cannot double count courses they have already completed for their major.
• Entrepreneurship majors can take the ITIE minor but they cannot double count courses already taken for their major. They will need to substitute the required GSM 3501 for a different course. Students are encouraged to find a relevant course appropriate to their interest. This course will need to be approved in advance.
• MIS majors can take the ITIE minor but they cannot double count courses already taken for their major. They are encouraged to take the non-MIS courses for the electives.
