6 Information Technology Resources

6.1 TECH Center

Bell Building at 12th St. and Montgomery Ave. (215) 204-8000 The TECH (Teaching, Education, Collaboration and Help) Center is a 75,000-square-ft., state-of-the-art technology facility with resources that cater to current learning styles. Designed with a variety of workspaces to enable students to work collaboratively or individually, the Center is the largest of its kind in the nation.
During the fall and spring semesters, the TECH Center is open *24 hours* a day.

6.2 TECH Center Advanced Technology Lab

The Advanced Technology Lab is primarily for MIS, CIS and Engineering students. This room has specialized equipment and software that is dedicated to software development.

6.3 Web Space for a Project

Web development space is available for students on the Fox School testing server. This IIS server fully supports web development and experimentation in ASP and ASP.NET environments. Students can enroll for space on the server to complete classroom assignments or for individual growth and experimentation.

6.4 Academic Licenses for MIS Students

Through the Microsoft Developer's Network Academic Alliance and the Oracle Academic Initiative, the MIS Department is able to offer select licenses to students for use in research and project development. Current MIS students may download CD's and receive product activation keys for use in class projects or personal research and experimentation. However, according to academic licenses, this software must only be used for educational purposes and cannot be used for production or personal gain.

6.5 Wireless Access at Temple University

Temple’s wireless network is based on the WI-FI 802.11b standard—the same standard used in Internet cafes, airports, and other hot spots throughout the world. Wireless networking is free to current Temple students, faculty, and staff. To use this technology, you need a laptop or PDA equipped with a wireless network card. The card must be compatible with the 802.11b/g/n standard. In addition, you must also have an AccessNet username and password to sign in. If you do not have a wireless laptop you can borrow one from the Surf Station Wireless Laptop Borrowing Program at the TECH Center.

6.6 Temple E-mail Accounts

All students are required to obtain a Temple e-mail address and follow guidelines for University use of e-mail; the policy establishes your Temple e-mail account as an approved channel of communication for sending you official University notifications and important information.

6.7 TU Portal

The TU Portal provides a streamlined method for accessing various Temple computer resources without having to log in separately to each one. These resources include:

  • TUmail account
  • Blackboard Courses and Communities
  • OWLnet
  • My Backpack
  • Diamond Dollars
  • Housing information
  • Cherry & White Pages

6.8 MIS Tutoring Services

The MIS department has tutoring available for students that are registered for MIS classes throughout the fall and spring semesters. The MIS tutors are available to support MIS 2101 (70), MIS 2501 (120), MIS 2502 (130), and MIS 3501 (81) classes.

6.9 RSS Feed

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an XML-based format for the distribution of web content. It allows you to receive updated news without having to constantly check the original site for updates. We offer an RSS feed that includes department news, events, and links back to our site for the full article. The primary ways of reading RSS feeds are in news readers and web portals.

The site is intended for current and prospective BBA in MIS majors. The site is informational only – the information in the site does not supersede existing Temple or Fox School procedures and requirements. If there is a discrepancy, then the official Temple or Fox School source for the information takes priority over the information in this site. The information in this site is updated once a year.
