12 Academic and Campus Resources

12.1 Student Identification Cards

The Office of Student Academic Records produces student ID cards on the Main Campus during New Student Orientation. At other times throughout the semester, the Diamond Dollars Office and the Office of Academic Records produce ID cards. An ID card is needed for entry into buildings, library privileges, and many University services. Confirmation Cards are issued to all enrolled students at the beginning of each new semester and must be carried with the photo ID. Replacement cards are available on the Main Campus in the Diamond Dollars Office, 1910 Liacouras Walk; the Office of Academic Records, Second Floor, Conwell Hall; and the Office of Student Financial Services, Ground Floor, Carnell Hall. The cost of a replacement is $10.00. ID cards also are issued on the Ambler Campus, Tyler Campus, Health Sciences Center, and on scheduled days and times at the Center City Campus.

12.2 Libraries

Samuel Paley Library is the main undergraduate and graduate library for Temple University. The books and journal titles of all Temple University libraries can be found in the combined Diamond: Temple University Libraries Catalog on the Internet (diamond.temple.edu).

Samuel Paley Library has a collection of close to three million volumes, including an extensive business collection of more than 170,000 volumes, as well as large collections of electronic databases, periodicals, microform materials, reference materials, Temple theses and dissertations, and rare books and manuscripts. For personal assistance with business research, contact the Business Librarian. Help is also available at the Reference Desk in Paley Library at 13th Street and Berks Mall (215-204-8212).

12.2.1 Electronic Resources

The Library Home Page has several “Subject Guides” to Internet resources for the Fox School, and there is a Blackboard Organization, under “Temple Libraries”, with additional resources for business students [no enrollment or password is required to access the “Subject Guides” or the Blackboard Organization]. The Library System has a significant collection of subscription databases. These databases are either FULL-TEXT (all materials that are indexed are online, within the database) or indexes with abstracts. Below are listed databases of particular interest to business students.

12.2.2 Print Resources

Extensive print resources are available in the Reference Area in Paley Library These include: Value Line Investment Survey, Standard and Poor's Industry Surveys, Hoover's Handbooks, Best’s Insurance Reports, the Advertising Red Books, sources of industry ratios, and a comprehensive collection of statistical publications on all subjects.

For those book titles not owned by Temple’s Libraries, extremely rapid access (two-three days) is available to print materials, from more than 30 cooperating libraries, through the Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium's EZ-Borrow Program. Access to this program can be found on the Library Home Page, under “Find Books”.

12.2.3 Other Resources

The Free Library of Philadelphia provides access to a substantial amount of data and information useful to your research. If you do not already have a library card from the Free Library of Philadelphia, you should get one. You can apply online and have the card mailed to you within days. Anyone who lives, works, pays taxes, or goes to school in Philadelphia is eligible for a card. The Free Library has more than 150 databases; many of them with remote access (just enter your library card number and your PIN number).

12.3 Parking

12.3.1 Main Campus

Parking is available on a cash basis in the Visitors' Parking Area #3, located on Park Avenue between Cecil B. Moore Avenue & Oxford Street; Area #2 located on Montgomery Avenue between 12th & 13th Streets and Temple Towers Area. Limited cash parking is currently available in Area # 4 located on Diamond Street between 12th and 13th Streets.
Parking is also available on a cash basis at the Liacouras Garage, located on 15th Street between Montgomery and Cecil B. Moore Avenues. Normally, parking fees are collected upon exit, according to the posted “Hourly Rates." On days when an event is scheduled, parking fees are collected upon entrance at the current event rate.

12.3.2 Center City Campus - Evening Parking

Central Parking Garage is the contracted parking system for Temple students. Have parking tickets validated at the first Floor reception desk to receive the discount rate for parking after 3:00 PM.

12.4 Office of International Services (OIS)

The Temple University Office of International Services provides information and assistance to Temple's nonimmigrant students and scholars. This assistance and advising relates to matters involving United States' governmental regulations affecting non-immigrant foreign students and scholars, settling in and adjusting to the University, and any general concerns which foreign students and scholars may bring to our attention.

The Office of International Services also works with the academic schools and departments, assisting them with various immigration processes involving the employment of international faculty and researchers. We also provide orientation programs at the beginning of each academic term, offer advice and support to a variety of student nationality or religious organizations, and serve as a liaison between students, the University, and sponsoring agencies.

12.5 Inclement Weather / Class Cancellations

During the winter months, the University participates in an inclement weather notification program with the City of Philadelphia and local radio and television stations. Radio station KYW (1060-AM) broadcasts code numbers indicating when institutions are closed because of inclement weather. Television station WTXF (Fox-29) will also broadcast such institutional closings. Other radio stations, such as WDAS (1480-AM, 105.3-FM), WIOQ (102.1-FM), WUSL (98.9-FM), and WPEN (950-AM), also include a variety of related announcements regarding inclement weather closings.
In addition, the University uses its radio station (WRTI-90.1 FM) to provide up-to-date messages to employees, students and the general community. The University's hot line (215-204-1975) announces the status of classes in bad weather as well as updates on campus news. The Temple website (www.temple.edu) also carries current information. As appropriate, the University’s e-mail system will be used to send messages to faculty, staff and students.

12.6 Radio Broadcast Class Cancellation Numbers

The following radio broadcast cancellation numbers are assigned to Temple University.
101 Day class cancellation for Main Campus, the Health Sciences Center, and TUCC (includes all schools and colleges at these campuses)
2101 Evening class cancellation for Main Campus, the Health Sciences Center, and TUCC (includes all schools and colleges at these campuses)
*426 Day class cancellation for Temple University Ambler and Temple University Fort Washington
*2426 Evening class cancellation for Temple University Ambler and Temple University Fort Washington
